Richebourg vs Romanee-St-Vivant - "A tackle or a kiss?"

Richebourg vs Romanee-St-Vivant, Burgundy Grand Cru
Richebourg vs Romanee-St-Vivant

At 9.44 hectares and 8.03 hectares, Romanee-St-Vivant and Richebourg are respectively among the largest Grand Crus of Vosne Romanee, and the only two climats in the village that are not monopoles. Richebourg has often been considered the "grandest of grand crus" in the village (aside from the monopoles), known for its deeper color, muscular structure, and tight-knit tannins that lends the wine power and intensity. Romanee-St-Vivant on the other hand, shows more fragrance - trading robustness for elegance and charm. And there is no doubt that the quality of RSV has in recent years improved so much that today it can contend toe to toe with Richebourg, as evidence by the ratings of their more recent vintages.

As Steen Öhman (Winehog) likes to put it "The Richebourg, is more an impressive wine. It will always give you a big experience, but you also risk a genuine rugby tackle if you are too optimistic with the drinking time. But in the end, truly sensual and delicate grace is perhaps the realm of the great Romanee-Saint-Vivants, La Romanées, and Romanee-Contis of the world. Do you want a tackle or a kiss?".

Our collection features the most celebrated growers of these two Grand Crus, these rare gems truly showcase the best of what these sites are capable of in the right hands, and when at their optimal drinking window.
